PART 1 - GENERAL

1.05 QUALIFICATIONS
A. Product Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing quality wood doors with minimum
ten (10) years experience.
1.06 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300
B. Shop Drawings: Illustrate door opening criteria, elevations, sizes, types, swings [undercuts required] [special beveling] [and special cutouts for hardware].
C. Submit manufacturer's certification stating that doors supplied for the project meet or exceed the specified standards.
D. Submit manufacturer's installation instructions indicating special installation instructions.
E. Submit manufacturer's maintenance instructions for sealing door edges.
1.07 QUALITY ASSURANCE
Select the quality level required for the project. Utilize this article when one quality level applies to all doors and delete AWI quality levels indicated elsewhere in this section.
A. Perform work in accordance with AWI Quality Standard Section 1400.
B. Provide true stile and rail doors from a single manufacturer, both fire rated and non-fire rated.
Include the following paragraph if factory finishing is not specified.
C. Field finish doors in accordance with AWI Quality Standard Section 1500 [grades identified in schedule herein] [grades identified in Section 09900].
1.08 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
One or more of the following standards must be selected as applicable to stile and rail fire rated doors, as appropriate to authority having jurisdiction.
A. Fire Door Construction: Conform to [ASTM E152} {NFPA 252].
B. Installed Fire Rated Door Assembly: Conform to [NFPA 80].

1.09 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver, store, protect, and handle products to site under provisions of Section 01600.
B. Package, deliver and store doors in accordance with AWI Section 1400 G-7. Protect doors with resilient packaging. Store doors flat on a level surface, in a clean, dry, and well ventilated area protected from the sunlight. Avoid subjecting doors to extreme heat, dryness, or moisture.
C. Break seal (plastic protective packaging only) on-site to permit ventilation.
D. Seal all edges as soon as possible.
E. Do not drag doors across one another.
1.10 FIELD MEASUREMENTS
A. Verify that field measurements are as [indicated] [on shop drawings.] [instructed by the manufacturer.]
1.11 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate work under provisions of Section 01040.
B. Coordinate the work with door opening construction, door frame and door hardware installation
1.12 WARRANTY
Door warranties are manufacturer's warranties and should be provided to the Owner, in the Owner's name, through the General Contractor and other intermediate contracting parties.
A. Submit a written warranty, executed by the Door Manufacturer, agreeing to repair or replace, at the Manufacturer's discretion, units that fail in materials or workmanship within the specified warranty period.
B. Warranty Period: 1 year from the date of substantial completion.
C. Include coverage for delamination of veneer, warping beyond specified installation tolerances, defective material, and telegraphing core construction. Warranty includes replacement only (not including finishing and installation).
D. The warranty shall not deprive the Owner of other rights or remedies that the Owner may have under other provision of the Contract Documents between the Owner and the Installing Contractor and is in addition to and runs concurrent with other warranties made by the Installing Contractor under requirements of the Contract Documents between the Installing Contractor to the Owner.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS

B. Approval of alternate manufacturer must be acknowledged by Architect at least 15 days prior to bid date, in the form of a written addendum.
2.02 ACCEPTABLE PRODUCTS
A. Fire Door: 20, 45, 60, and 90 minute Warnock-Hersey rating, 1-3/4", 2-1/4", or 2-1/2" thick; up to 42" x 96" single opening [84" x 96" double egress]. Frame, hinges, locks, and installation in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and NFPA 80.
2.03 DOOR, [FRAMES,] [AND TRANSOM PANEL] TYPES
A. Exterior Doors: 1-3/4 [2-1/4] [2-1/2] [or as specified] inches thick; veneer and lumber stile and rail construction; doweled and glued joints.
B. Interior Doors: [1-3/8] [1-3/4] [2-1/4] [2-1/2] [or as specified] inches thick; veneer and lumber stile and rail construction; doweled and glued joints; [as indicated.
C. [Transom Panels: [To match door] [______], panel face veneer to [end] [______] match] [as indicated].

Wood door jambs are available with Warnock-Hersey 20, 45, 60, and 90 minute fire rating in the following maximum sizes:
A. Single swinging: 42 x 96 inches.
B. Pair swinging: 84 x 96 inches. (not available with 90 minute rated)
E. Frames: Hardwood of species to match door species, in profiles as detailed. [with profile and installation method able to produce either a 20, 45, 60 or 90 minute Warnock-Hersey rating.
2.04 DOOR [AND TRANSOM PANEL] CONSTRUCTION

Select and edit one or more of the following paragraphs as appropriate. Over 60 species of wood are available. Some of the more popular species are listed below.

2.08 FABRICATION
A. Fabricate doors in accordance with AWI Quality Standards requirements (including manufacturer's enhanced amendments).
B Fabricate fire rated doors in accordance with AWI Quality Standards (including manufacturer's enhanced amendments) and to Warnock-Hersey requirements. Attach fire rating label to door.
Utilize the following paragraph when factory machining for hardware is specified (preferred by manufacturer).
C. Factory machine doors for finish hardware in accordance with hardware requirements and dimensions, and NFPA 80-1-3.5. Do not machine for surface hardware or function holes. [Provide solid blocking for through bolted hardware.]
D. Factory pre-fit doors for frame opening dimensions identified on shop drawings.
Utilize the following paragraph when factory pre-fitting is specified (preferred by manufacturer).
E. Fabrication Tolerances:
Fabrication tolerances are those which would be expected at time of shipment.
1. Size:
a. Thickness: +/- 1/32 inch.
b. Length: +/- 1/16 inch.
c. Width: +/- 1/16 inch.2. Squareness: Diagonally measured, not to exceed 1/16 inch.
2.09 FINISH
This article describes finishing of wood doors. If finishing requirements are specified in Section 09900, utilize the first "A". If finishing is specified herein, utilize the second "A".
A. Site finishing is specified in Section 09900.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify frame opening conditions under provisions of Section 01040.
B. Verify that opening sizes and tolerances are acceptable.
C. Do not install doors in frame openings that are not plumb or are out-of-tolerance for size or alignment.
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Acclimate doors to site conditions for a minimum of 24 hours before installation.
3.03 INSTALLATION
A. Install doors in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and AWI Quality Standards requirements.
B. Install doors in accordance with AWI Quality Standards.
C. Trim door width by cutting equally on both jamb edges, unless door is not factory pre-fitted.
D. Trim door height by cutting bottom edge to a maximum of ¾ inch.
E. Pilot drill screw and bolt holes.
F. Machine cut for hardware. Bore for handsets and cylinders, unless factory machining has occurred.
G. Coordinate installation of doors with installation of frames specified in Section 08111 and hardware specified in Section 08712. Utilize at least two hinges on doors up to 72" in height, and one additional hinge for each 30" (or fraction thereof) of height thereafter.
H. Coordinate installation of glass and glazing.
3.04 INSTALLATION TOLERANCES
The following tolerances are based on installed products which may include, to some degree, storage and installation induced stresses which are out of the manufacturer's control.
A. Conform to AWI requirements for fit, joint, and clearance tolerances.
B. Maximum Diagonal Distortion (Warp): ¼ inch measured with straight edge or taught string, corner to corner, over an imaginary 36 x 84 inch surface area.
C. Maximum Vertical Distortion (Bow): ¼ inch measured with straight edge or taught string, top to bottom, over an imaginary 36 x 84 inch surface area.
D. Maximum Width Distortion (Cup): ¼ inch measured with straight edge or taught string, edge to edge, over an imaginary 36 x 84 inch surface area.
3.05 ADJUSTING
A. Adjust work under provisions of Section [01700] [01701].
B. Adjust door for smooth and balanced door movement.
3.06 SCHEDULE
Provide schedule when door and frame schedules are not described on drawings. The schedule should identify various types or categories of doors and associated frames, fire ratings if any, hardware sets, etc.
